L.Q.C.Lamar House

Rescued by the Oxford-Lafayette County Heritage Foundation in 2004, this national landmark's restoration was completed in spring 2008. Plans call for the house to be made a historic house museum that will reveal the life and times of its namesake, Lucius Quintus Cincinnatus Lamar. Read more...

Best Of Mississippi 2008
Congratulations to the many Oxford establishments featured in the July/August issue of Mississippi Magazine!

..."the town has developed into a cultural hub for the Deep South by taking full advantage of its local institution of higher education, Ole Miss, and by celebrating its unique literary history-both William Faulkner and John Grisham have called Oxford home. The town taps into that history as much as possible, whether through the museum at Rowan Oak, Faulkner's home, or with its famous Double Decker Arts Festival, held each spring."

Guided Walking Tours of North Lamar

This summer, you're invited to take a stroll along North Lamar and learn why it has earned a place on the National Register of Historic Places. Guided walking tours of Oxford's North Lamar Historic District will be offered every Saturday morning at 10am, departing from the Skipwith Cottage next to City Hall. Guides will point out architectural features, introduce some prominent people from Oxford's past, and explain why two houses have been declared National Historic Landmarks.

Sponsored by the Oxford Convention & Visitors Bureau, guided walking tours are offered as part of its heritage tourism program. Travelers are given a personal, up-close introduction to Oxford, and residents can learn a little more about local history. It's a pleasant way to get some exercise while taking a closer look at one of Oxford's most attractive assets.
